        Overview

Gee whiz, this bike's got some fizz! Crowds watch as a motorcyclist with sidecar completes a number of laps in unconventional style around the track at Pengam Airfield, the chimneys of the East Moors Steelworks visible in the background. He survives the course – as does a nonchalant pedestrian crossing the track - and is applauded by a mechanic friend. See also ‘Sport, on two wheels' for other footage of motorcycle racing at the same location.

Pengam (Moors) Airfield - also known as Cardiff or Splott Aerodrome - was used by the RAF between 1938 and 1946, reverting after the war to being a private airfield until its closure in 1954. This footage was filmed by Chris Jenkins, proprietor of a hair salon – ‘Vanda's' - in Charles Street, Cardiff (later Dumphries Place) and a stalwart member of CACS - Cardiff Amateur Cine Society. He was also a keen amateur astronomer and artist.
