Overview

TV reporter David Rodgers reports from a BV 202 Snowcat driving from Plymouth to Princetown on Dartmoor in blizzard conditions. 29 Commando of the Royal Artillery are going on exercises to Norway and will have these craft at their disposal. The Snowcat relieves Princetown which is cut off as roads are either closed or inaccessible due to the heavy snowfall.

The Swedish BM Bandvagn (BV 202) is an articulated all-terrain vehicle developed by Bolinder-Munktell, a subsidiary of Volvo, for the Swedish Army.  The British Royal Marines use this vehicle under NATO instruction. It is used to transport equipment and men through boggy or snow-covered ground, the Snowcat as it’s known, has two sets of kegresse tracks with a multi-directional pivot in the middle, its top speed is 35km/h.
