This impressive display marks an unusual confluence between British rule and Irish tradition as the trooping of the colour celebrates St Patrick’s Day. At a time of rising tension around home rule, this was the last such occasion at Dublin Castle prior to the outbreak of WWI. Various regiments take part in the event, which was not open to the public. If indeed the past is another country, this newsreel is a record of another Ireland.
