Take a fighter jet, a Top Gun pilot with sunglasses and a brand new SAAB 900 and you have a sure-fire vehicle to launch a Hollywood career.

Carefully crafted visuals for this SAAB commercial impressed Hollywood producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer so much that they insisted they had found their ideal director for their new feature about fighter pilots at the Top Gun training school. Tony Scott’s status as a star director took off from here making him one of Hollywood’s leading directors. Top Gun went on to become one of the highest grossing films of 1986 and catapulted Tom Cruise to new heights too. Sales for the SAAB 900 turbo… well they did pretty well too! The car thrived until 1998.
