Cinemas do their bit for the war effort in this WWI morale booster

Non-Fiction 1916 12 mins Silent

Overview

This powerful vignette evokes the collective spirit on the home front during WW1 - from factory workers to royalty - and its dynamic editing and strikingly framed shots give it impressive visual power. On 9 November 1915 British cinemas donated their entire takings to the Red Cross Ambulance Fund. This film reports back on the success of the appeal, which reached its target of £30,000. The funds were used to manufacture and despatch a much needed fleet of ambulances to the front.
