Overview

A typical example of a dedicated amateur filmmaker capturing his family trips; in this case along the Knottingley and Goole Canal and Aire and Calder Navigation, and a picnic at SemerWater. There is even an attempt to film the 1953 coronation on the TV. It finishes with a comical and inventive film with his son, on the theme of ‘Which came first: the chicken or the egg?’

This is one of many very fine films made by enthusiast Ted Warburton, dating from the end of the war through to the 1970s, mostly on 16 mm film and demonstrating the lovely tones of kodachrome colour. Ted was an early member of the Halifax Cine Club which thrived in the post war period. As well as filming his home town of Elland, Ted ventured throughout the UK, giving an insight into the typical family holidays of the period, often using very helpful and witty subtitles.
