Queen Victoria's Funeral Soldiers Manoevuvre in Square

The funeral procession approaches Paddington

1901 3 mins Silent

Rounding a corner on route to Paddington, the leading riders pause: for the cameras or for the Queen's coffin to catch up? Without any figures in the foreground, this sequence affords several good views of the procession, which pivots around the camera position, creating a strong sense of depth and breadth. A variety of marching bands are precede the cortege itself by some distance, whilst in the background waiting rows of soldiers and cavalry shuffle on the spot in anticipation of the coffin and the chief mourners.
