        Overview

Well-hung gates, safe and competent tractor driving, edible Christmas cakes and all manner of interesting items made from used baler twine are some of the benefits offered by the proficiency test system for farmers, tests initiated by the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs during the 1950s and designed to encourage competent working and the acquisition and valuing of crafts and skills.

The centre at Felinfach, insituted by Cardiganshire Education Committee, was opened on 18/5/1966 and as well as training workshops and a ‘rural domestic economy’ room, it provided a library and a theatre/hall so that it could also function as a social and cultural centre for the community it served.
