        Postcards Home

From loving to brusque - potent messages home to loved ones from soldiers during WWI

        War 1966 10 mins Silent

        Overview

Loving, stilted, eloquent, banal and brusque - there's a wide emotional range to these messages home to loved ones, written on postcards by soldiers during WWI. Simple in concept and powerfully moving in effect, this short film is a beautiful tribute to the men and women on the front line of war or left behind at home.

Postcards Home was originally made for Peace News, a newspaper published since 1936 which today describes itself as "covering the full spectrum of peace and justice issues". Dai Vaughan, director of the film, was best known and widely admired for his skill as a film editor, working on television series including World in Action, Omnibus and Arena.
