        Opening of the Coaching Season

Join coaching enthusiast Alfred Vanderbilt on the trip in this early newsreel.

        Non-Fiction 1913 1 mins Silent

        Overview

Take a trip from London to Brighton the old-fashioned way in this early Topical Budget newsreel. Despite the relative ease of modern rail transport, certain enthusiasts kept travel by traditional horse-drawn coach alive into the 20th century. One such was the wealthy American businessman Alfred Wynne Vanderbilt, who ran a seasonal London to Brighton service from around 1907 with his coach, the Venture.

Look out for Vanderbilt himself in this newsreel - he's the taller of two gentlemen who pose for the cameras in front of the coach and horses.
