Overview

A newsreel gem. Newport's King of the Carnival [?] – a giant figure - is carried on a float led by four horses and surrounded by floats and carnival-goers who have pulled out all the decorative stops. The Temperance Union float warns that 'Alcohol prepares the Bed for Tubercolosis'. References to the not-so-long-ago Crimean and Great Wars can be seen on the hospital float, and a Looney Band includes a soldier on horseback wearing a gas mask. Spot the sheep travelling in style!
