New Zoom
Look out! A brand new ice lolly lands in a shop near you (with strings attached)
Overview
This Lyons Maid advertisement offers a nostalgia double-whammy, with the marionette crew of Gerry Anderson's TV hit Fireball XL5 giving a boost to the new Zoom rocket ice lolly. The advert was pitched at boys, while Lyons Maid's later Fab (F-A-B) lolly was targeted at girls, with help from Lady Penelope and Anderson's later classic series, Thunderbirds. It’s all evidence of just how much the 1960s space race inflected popular culture, from what we watched to what we ate.
