Milnrow and Newhey Gazette
Milnrow locals are on the streets for their Whit procession, while in nearby Newhey cotton workers lark about
Overview
In this compilation of early footage, the people of Milnrow, adjoining Rochdale, are on the streets for their Whitsuntide procession, while nearby Newhey is in the spotlight with some splendid footage of the cotton mills and workers larking about outside. The mills featured include Newhey Spinning Mill and Coral Mill, and there is also special mention of the “workpeople leaving William Clegg’s Mill” – many of whom appear to be young children. These beautifully shot films were likely to have been commissioned by the local Empire Cinema in Milnrow for screening over the following days.
