Overview
Set off on an idyllic yachting adventure along the west coast of Scotland in this amateur travelogue. As the sun glints off the water, spend some happy days speeding alongside colourful kayaks and tending to the daily chores in the yacht’s lovely wood-panelled kitchen. Navigate choppy seas as the weather closes in, skirting a maelstrom to reach the safe haven of a boatyard, where the yacht receives attention from some skilful men. A must watch for all sailing enthusiasts.
Made by Don McLachlan, an award-winning amateur film-maker who began filming in 1935, firstly on 16mm reversal, then later on video. An engineer, keen sailor and family man, he recorded many aspects of his life, but rarely his working life. His film subjects range from sailing excursions to a Brownie camp holiday in 1959. Don participated in the Scottish Amateur Film Festival, winning a commendation in 1939 for ‘The Sea Road to the Isles’. He died in December 2003.
