Lawrence: Leicester and Trip to Banbury
From the death of King George V to events in Coronation year 1953: a scrapbook of a Leicester long since changed.
From the collection of:

Overview
A film that seems to reveal new details at every viewing: from crowds outside Leicester Town Hall hearing of the death of King George V to the Lord Mayor of Leicester struggling with a starting pistol at the start of a road walk. Then there's a trip to London to see Methodist preacher Donald Soper at Speakers' Corner, while a coach outing for members of a Methodist church in Belgrave provides a comic travelogue as they go in search of the Banbury Cross.
Other events captured on this film include the 1936 funeral of the former Lord Mayor of Leicester, George Hilton, with his cortege leaving Claremont Methodist Church. The removal of wooden paving blocks from Leicester's streets also features as does the flooding of Belgrave when the River Soar overtops its banks.
