The traditional carnival parade was alive and well in the first year of the 1980s at Wem in Shropshire.
Margaret Keeling-Robert is the filmmaker of this 8mm home movie showing a carnival and trade fair in the small market town of Wem in north Shropshire. The trade fair takes place in Wem Town Hall, which was subsequently gutted in a fire in 1995. Local legend has it that a ghost emerged from the flames but unfortunately the displays put on by local businesses don't have the same incendiary impact on the spirit world.
