Overview

The Kirkby in Ashfield cine club turns the camera on its members as a hint of comedy is injected into the horror genre. What will happen when the club screens a copy of locally produced horror film 'Spawn of the Vampire'?

This insight into the workings of one of the many cine clubs that existed across the country in the mid-twentieth century was shot by Fred Hutchinson. 'Spawn of the Vampire' was filmed in and around Annesley in Nottinghamshire by a filmmaking group made up of people working in the mining industry. The group featured in an edition of the National Coal Board newsreel 'Mining Review' in 1962.
