Introducing Lady Cripps

British aid-worker Lady Isobel Cripps appeals in crystalline tones for funding for Chinese victims of "unbelievable tortures".

Charity appeal 1944 1 mins

Overview

In crystalline tones, Lady Isobel Cripps appeals for aid following "Japanese atrocities" in China. Cripps was President of the British United Aid to China Fund during WWII and wife of Labour politician Sir Stafford Cripps. One of a series of films made for British cinemas, this short (incomplete) appeal reveals a humanitarian and political British interest in China, even as war raged in Europe.
