Overview

Picture-postcard pretty this landscape may be, but for those who make a living in it, including the celebrated farmer and conservationist Esmé Firbank (later Kirby), there’s not much time to admire the view. Many hands and sheepdogs are needed to gather the mountain sheep for dipping, and Esmé has donned dungarees and rolled up her sleeves for the job, grabbing a sheep for its unwelcome dunking.

Walton Films, which made and distributed this film, was formed in 1948 by James Beney. It catered for the home movie market by distributing both library films and the company’s own productions. Travel films were a speciality of Walton’s extensive catalogue, as were ‘glamour’ films, films covering royal events, adventure films and ‘thrills’. The company ceased operating in the early 1980s with the growth of the home video market, and James Beney died in 1990.
