Overview

When John Swallow visited the tiny village of Hope in Shropshire in 1980 it was probably more prepared for nuclear attack than any other village in the UK. With several 'big fellas' lined up to keep order and the cellar of a big house to hide in, villagers were well prepared for the bomb. Although, as John Swallow points out, they really should consider blocking up the window in the 'bunker', otherwise they'll never survive an attack.
