Hitchin. Honouring the Brave
Victims of a tragic air crash are honoured in a sombre military funeral procession through the streets of Hitchin.
Overview
The sombre mood of the crowd is no surprise at this military funeral procession through Hitchin in September 1912. Even the children supress their curiosity and excitement at the sight of a camera and look calmly on. Full honours are given to the two aviation officers concerned - both pilots of the newly formed Royal Flying Corp who plunged to their deaths when their aircraft suffered catastrophic engine failure.
