Hackney Marshes - November 4th 1977
Careful match-framing creates uncanny, musical movements from a structured city landscape.
Overview
An improvisation shot in one-day by artist and experimental filmmaker, John Smith. Careful match-framing and precise cutting creates uncanny movements and feelings of dislocation. All edited in camera, and shot from a spot in the middle of one of 112 football pitches in Hackney Marshes, London, the camera eye’s records unexpected events and occurrences whilst simultaneously creating the illusion of movement.
Known for concurrently exploring humour, puns and formal concerns, John Smith’s artist and experimental films are widely appreciated and he won the Jarman Award in 2013.
