Overview
This thought-provoking film offers a rare artistic focus on one of Britain’s favourite sports, football. A Yorkshire artist-in-residence takes us on an interesting personal journey which gets to the heart of his artistic fascination with the sport. The artist specifically highlights his special understanding of the “ritual” nature of football as a fan and an amateur player.
Versions of football have been played around the world for centuries. The game as we know it today was codified in England in 1863. Amateur football remains a popular weekend pastime throughout the country. Workplaces, schools and pubs often have their own amateur football teams that compete with other nearby teams.
