Filmmakers in Focus: Agnès Varda
Writer and activist So Mayer joins filmmaker and critic Alexandra Hidalgo to discuss the work of acclaimed French director and artist Agnès Varda.
In a career spanning seven decades, Agnès Varda created her own singular cinematic vision and expanded the boundary of what cinema as an art form can achieve. This discussion focuses on three of her films - a French New Wave classic Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962), a Venice-winning portrait of uncompromising Mona in Vagabond (1985), and Varda’s last film, Varda by Agnès (2019), a personal documentary reflecting on her unique work and life.
Recorded in June 2021.
