Euro Election - The Cotswolds
It's the first chance to vote for a Euro MP and the parties are going head-to-head in the battle for the Cotswolds.

Overview
The 1979 European Election was the first open to a public vote but, coming only a month after a British General Election, voters showed their lack of interest by staying at home on election day. The Cotswolds seat, incorporating large parts of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, was one of the largest and, with a candidate already well versed in Euro-shenanigans, the Conservatives had it all to lose.
Sir Henry Plumb won the seat for the Conservatives going on to hold the position for twenty years. He also became the first British President of the European Parliament in 1989. Sir Henry had gained much of his European experience as President of the National Farmers Union during the UK entry into the European Economic Community in 1973.
