Employees Leaving Fowler's Ironworks, Leeds (1901)

A beautifully composed film of Edwardian factory workers as they rush for home.

Non-Fiction 1901 2 mins Silent

Overview

Nothing remains today of John Fowler & Co.'s engine works off Leathley Road in Hunslet, Leeds - but in 1901, when this film was made, the company was a leading manufacturer of agricultural and railway steam engines. This strikingly well-composed film of the workforce leaving the factory gives a powerful impression of the scale of human labour required by Edwardian industrial endeavour.
