Cromer Excursion

This short film is a great souvenir of a trip to the seaside resort of Cromer. At the time, the train journey there and back would have been very much part of the holiday adventure.

Overview

Very little is known about this filmmaker but he has taken the trouble to film some wonderful detail of the journey to and from Cromer as well as capturing the special sights of the town, beach and pier. Many of the scenes captured here have changed little more than 60 years on and the crab capital and 'Gem of the Norfolk Coast' still draws daytrippers and holidaymakers by road and rail.

Railways came to Cromer in 1877 with 2 stations - 'Cromer Beach' and 'Cromer High' but Beeching cuts led to the demise of the 'High' and 'Cromer Beach' became simply 'Cromer' in 1968.
