Childhood Days
A chilly day for Walworth's May Queen
Overview
It's a murky May Day in Walworth, but the children bring their own summer cheer. Judging by the warm winter coats on display, it's chilly too. But even in her light May Day dress, the the proud Queen of the May is impervious to the cold, as are her equally happy entourage. These delightful images appeared in Topical Budget's weekend edition on Saturday 2 May 1929 - the day after they were taken - just in time to warm the hearts of cinemagoers across the land. All in a day's work for a busy newsreel!
