Overview

A look at the British film industry's efforts to win audiences across the Atlantic after WWII. British moguls Alexander Korda and J Arthur Rank had already had some success getting their films on American screens but, as can be seen from the filming of Michael Powell's A Matter of Life and Death and Gabriel Pascal's Caesar and Cleopatra, Britain could ably compete with Hollywood for lavish sets and star names.
