Overview

It is fancy dress costumes galore - including a shepherdess, a pirate, a ghost and Welsh ladies - as crowds gather to celebrate the Maesteg and Caerau carnival. No such event is complete without a Queen and this one, in keeping with the times, represents Britannia, with her trident, for it is Coronation year. 'God Save the Queen' is the message on banners hanging above the streets, the buildings hung with bunting.
