Cab Ride
Two queer lovers bolt out of a house party, into a waiting cab where they have one eventful journey to figure out whether they are truly a match.
Overview
Set in the streets of south London, this naturalistic comedy drama sees two queer lovers bolt out of a house party, into a waiting cab where they have one eventful journey to figure out whether they are truly a match... Or maybe these dating apps are nothing but admin, admin, admin?
We wanted to develop a story that puts dark skinned queer love front and centre. An exploration that removes the male gaze (that desires titillation) or the hetero gaze (that attaches trauma with under-represented groups). Cab Ride is that intense altercation between two lovers we mostly get to hear about from a third party. Yet you are still not sure who to root for. You root for whoever you relate to more. Using naturalistic dialogue, energetic diegetic and non diegetic music, the cab driver and streets of South London are involved in this lovers tangle. But no discord is empty of love, miscommunication of feelings, possible reconciliation and near loss. Cab Ride’s lush colour palette will be a mix of blues, deep pinks and reds is a testament to the respect we have for the stories we want to tell. Our world is allowed to look beautiful whilst feeling real and relatable."
