A newsreel announcer is unimpressed with London’s striking dockers in this short film from 1945.
Newsreel of the 1945 dock strike, which began in Liverpool over the carrying of pit props but spread to London and lasted several weeks. Thames-side docks are shown still and silent. Soldiers are shown unloading ships, while the narrator notes the population “undoubtedly expect labour at the dock to cooperate with the spokesman of Labour government, the Minister of Labour”.
