Blizzard in East Anglia
Hare today, gone tomorrow. Coursing with greyhounds is now banned, but crowds came out for this event in 1922.
Overview
Despite the wintry weather, crowds gather on the snowy Hockwold Fens to watch prize greyhounds bully hares. Coursing for animals with fast dogs was a long-running hunting practice until it was banned as cruel by the Hunting Act of 2004. The snow made this trial event a good novelty story for the newsreel camera, as dogs and their owners competed for a place at the three-day knockout tournament final in Great Altcar, Lancashire.
