Overview

This look at Birmingham was shot by members of the Cine Section of the Birmingham Photographic Society. It provides a valuable record of the city prior to the drastic redevelopment of the 1950s and 60s. This is the city before the Bull Ring became an American style shopping complex and before the ring road cut a great swathe through the city centre. Another future change was the loss of the old covered market hall which lost its roof in an air raid in August 1940.
