        Beyond the Devil's Punchbowl!

A natural wonder in Surrey brought to life in glorious stencil colour

        Travelogue 1930 2 mins Silent

        Overview

Whether the result of natural erosion or a fight between the devil and Thor - as one legend has it - this corner of Surrey must be one of the prettiest parts of Britain. Scene of the gruesome murder of an unknown sailor in 1786, many a country walk, and a long-time traffic black-spot, idyllic views of the natural amphitheatre are followed by scenes of local villages.

Originally released as part of the Eve's Film Review cine-magazine, the film has been stencil coloured, adding to its picture postcard appeal. This time-consuming process involved creating a series of masks for every frame, before tinting each copy of the black-and-white film print colour by colour.
