        Overview

An early '30s boat ride along the Trent heading east from Nottingham opens this reel of work's outings for a Nottingham engineering firm. Their 1933 visit to Loughborough College doesn't seem to go beyond a pub doorway and their 1935 trip to Bleasby is also hostelry based. Plenty of energetic activities in the field behind though, as the workers enthusiastically take part in a series of races. A three legged race over a five bar gate poses the biggest challenge.

The Universal Engineering Company was based on Castle Boulevard in Nottingham and was run by Arthur Cyril Ball who was the brother of Albert Ball VC, a famous First World War air ace whose statue can be seen in the grounds of Nottingham Castle.
