Royal weddings, fireworks, Christmas presents and tormenting family pets – and little brothers – all feature in these home movies from south-east London in 1960.
There’s loads of great moments in these home movies from the Ashlee Family Films collection, recorded over the course of 1960 and largely featuring eldest daughter Christine, who good-naturedly torments her new baby brother – and pet dog – throughout. Also includes interesting footage from Tower Hill around the time of the 1960 Royal wedding between Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, and shots of the Christmas lights in central London.
Most of the films are shot in and around the Ashlee home in Barnehurst, as the children attend various fetes and events. They ride miniature trains, eat ice cream, visit the Erith & Belvedere Rabbit And Cavy Club, set off fireworks and finish up by engaging in a particularly riotous Christmas Day present-opening session.
