Overview

These scenes around Orford Ness filmed in 1960 are testament to the power of the shingle strip which, to this day, strives to protect a fragile ever-changing habitat from the North Sea. Semi professional photographer Leslie Gillham, seen with his camera, would often bring his family to this area on holiday from Hornchurch and involved his sons Roger and Geoffrey in this 2 camera shoot of the area including some wonderful close ups of seabirds, flora and fauna.

This film was produced as a joint effort by the talented Gillham family - including Geoffrey who later became a renowned playwright, director and teacher.
