An Indian Scrapbook

Film star Sabu fronts this novelty travelogue.

Documentary 1941 11 mins

Overview

This cheery, not to say cheesy, novelty film is at heart a standard ‘exotic’ travelogue, given an entertaining surface twist: it’s fronted by a celeb. Sabu, India’s first international movie star, is supposedly talking to the off-screen narrator while taking a studio tea break between takes of his latest feature film. It’s quite possible the location footage was all bought in, given a spurious unity by the device of Sabu’s ‘scrapbook’.
