Members of Queen Victoria's extended family being natural for the cameras
In June 1897 Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. While in London, visiting members of the royal family posed for WKL Dickson's Biograph camera. The group includes Alfred Duke of Edinburgh with his wife and son, the Duke of York (the future George V) and his Duchess, and the Grand Duke and Duchess of Hesse and their little daughter Elizabeth. Also present, but perhaps not seen here, is Prince Charles of Denmark. The addition of the parrot and the pet dog gives the film the informal air favoured by the royal family.
