Rosine Mbakam’s feature debut focuses on a week in the life of a working-class Cameroonian who strives against all odds to make ends meet.
The women of the coastal city of Douala – Cameroon’s economic capital – are resilient entrepreneurs who generate income for themselves and their families. Mbakam’s drama focuses on seamstress and single mother Mambar (played by the director’s cousin Pierrette Aboheu). The film’s style echoes that of Mbakam’s earlier documentaries as she follows Mambar around the city, capturing her struggle to keep everyone afloat with honesty and compassion.
