Overview

A distinct change of pace for Hitchcock, coming in the midst of a run of thrillers, The Trouble with Harry is one of the great director’s few out-and-out comedies, although the plot retains a touch of the macabre – the discovery of a dead body which alarms the local residents of an autumnal Vermont village.

Shirley MacLaine delights in her debut film role, for which she won a Bafta, and Hitchcock proves himself adept at providing a comedy with equal charm and devilishly black humour.
