The Miners' Film

The 1973 coal miners' overtime ban, framed within a history of political confrontation.

1975 47 mins

Overview

The 1973 coal miners' overtime ban is framed within a larger history of conflicts between miners and the state in this agitational film made by political film collective, Cinema Action. It includes shots of the 1926 General Strike and its aftermath; an analysis by Kent miner Jack Dunn of the state of nationalisation and its links to private industry; and a visit to a former pit.

Cinema Action formed in the wake of the revolutionary month of May 1968 and went onto make films about the political situations affecting working-class people in Britain, showing their films to workers in factories and elsewhere.
