Overview

A troubled past and the removal of her children hasn’t dulled the headstrong Bunny King. Wiping windshields for spare change, and sleeping on her sister’s sofa, she is determined to build herself from the ground up and regain custody of her kids. After promising her daughter a birthday party, and with her runaway niece Tonya (played by Thomasin McKenzie) in tow, Bunny is in a fight against both time and the social services to ensure that her promise is kept. Whilst her resourceful yet unruly nature pushes her in her determination to reclaim her kids – it may just be the very thing that is getting in her way.

Gaysorn Thavat’s heartfelt feature debut is a rousing blend of stark realism laced with sharp humour. Anchored by a blistering lead performance by Essie Davis that deftly balances comedy with a fiery fervour that reaches heart-wrenching limits
