The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveras
Award-winning Filipino coming-of-age tale about a flamboyant boy torn between his love for a young policeman and loyalty to his family.
Director: Auraeus Solito
Overview
First-time director Auraeus Solito won the 2006 Teddy Award at the Berlin Film Festival for his assured and delightful tale of a self-confident boy living in a poor district of Manila. 12-year-old Maxi’s penchant for dressing up and clear sense of his own gay identity causes no problems - until he falls in love with a young policeman, and the stage is set for a dramatic conflict of loyalties.
