Jill has been robbed. What was taken? Her childhood, lost to a bad mother whose volatile behaviour forces her into the unwanted role of carer. As her birthday nears, Jill is promised a visit from her estranged father, a small moment of joy which nothing must obstruct. Camilla Strøm Henriksen’s film places a heavy load on young shoulders. As Jill, newcomer Ylva Bjørkaas Thedin is a sensational central figure, a child teetering in a world carved out by selfish, blinkered adults. Her rapport with brother Bo (Casper Falck-Løvås) is tender and brittle, and it underpins a well-crafted drama with an otherworldly edge.
