Overview
Veteran Hollywood director/choreographer Herbert Ross made a bold choice in casting Steve Martin for the film version of Dennis Potter's celebrated BBC TV serial. In his first dramatic film role, Martin captures the style of the piece and makes great use of his deceptively elegant physical prowess in the dance sequences. While Ross ensures the crackling bite of Potter's script shines through the gleaming Hollywood production values, which include Gordon Willis' cinematography and music by Marvin Hamlisch.
