My Own Private Idaho

15 rating

A narcoleptic hustler (River Phoenix) and his friend (Keanu Reeves) hit the road in this landmark of New Queer Cinema from Gus Van Sant.

Narcoleptic hustler Mike (Phoenix) and his friend Scott (Reeves), who’s secretly from a wealthy family, ditch the streets of Portland and hit the road, heading for Mike’s home town of Idaho. Focusing on characters living on the fringes of American society, and avant-garde in its style (partly inspired by William Burroughs’ cut-up technique), My Own Private Idaho is considered a landmark in New Queer Cinema.
