Phantom Lady
Robert Siodmak’s first Hollywood noir about an innocent man sentenced to death when the woman who can verify his alibi mysteriously vanishes.
Director: Robert Siodmak
Overview
Robert Siodmak’s first Hollywood film noir, imbued with the director’s customary pace and flair. An innocent man is sentenced to death based on the disappearance of a mystery woman who can verify his alibi. His former secretary turns amateur sleuth to track down the phantom lady and prove his innocence.
Siodmak was one of key figures in establishing the film noir style and Phantom Lady finds the director revelling in the shadowy ambiguity (visual, moral and psychological) that would become noir’s trademark.
