Speaking of Buñuel
José Luis López-Linares and Javier Rioyo’s incisive documentary about Luis Buñuel.
Director: José Luis López Linares and Javier Rioyo
Overview
José Luis López-Linares and Javier Rioyo’s incisive documentary about Luis Buñuel compiles a picture of its subject from over 70 hours of interviews with key collaborators (including Carlos Saura, Pere Portabella , Francisco Rabal, Michel Piccoli and Jean-Claude Carrière), along with unseen material from the great director’s personal archives.
Charting his life from an affluent upbringing and his artistic emergence as part of the Surrealism movement, to his development as a nomadic but provocative filmmaker who frequently returned to themes of religiosity and eroticism, Speaking of Buñuel is an essential key to unlocking the mysteries of a most enigmatic filmmaker.
